The College Board sponsors the SAT ®, the Advanced Placement Program ® Exams and other testing programs and decides how they will be constructed, administered and used. ETS develops and administers these tests on behalf of the College Board.
The SAT is a paper-based test administered at schools and sites around the country on select dates throughout the year. Students are allowed to take the test as many times as they want; most universities will only look at the highest score or the super-score (a combination of the highest sections).
SAT preparation services help students learn test-taking strategies and time management skills, and also provide guided practice and a higher level of knowledge of test questions and methods of assessment. These services give students confidence in their abilities, which furthers their benefits.

The SAT is composed of three main sections — Math, Evidence-Based Reading, and Writing. There is an optional 50-minute essay*, and total testing time with the essay is 3 hours and 50 minutes. The breakdown of each remaining section can be found in the table below.

SAT School Day lets schools, districts, and states offer the SAT to juniors and seniors in school, on a weekday, expanding access to a globally recognized college admission test that’s accepted at all U.S. colleges.
Harvard admissions is extremely selective with an acceptance rate of 5%. Students that get into Harvard have an average SAT score between 1460-1570 or an average ACT score of 33-35. The regular admissions application deadline for Harvard is January 1.
Carl C. Brigham, the father of the SAT, became interested in mental testing while a student a Princeton. He later became a psychology professor at the university, where he was an enthusiastic member of the eugenics movement.
The term “test” has the history of more than a thousand years. Ancient China was the first country in the world used a standardized test nationwide, called imperial examination. The test has come to the United States for more than one hundred years.
The Creation of a Standardized College Admissions Exam
The SAT, which has at various times been referred to as the Scholastic Aptitude Test, Scholastic Assessment Test, and SAT Reasoning Test, was created in an attempt to standardize college admissions procedures and increase access to higher education.

MIT has officially waived the SAT/ACT requirements for the 2020-2021 admission cycle. However, we recommend that you submit them as they prove your competence. Initially, students were required to submit SAT/ACT and two SAT subject scores along with an English proficiency test.
