Learning algebra helps
Algebra is a prerequisite for virtually all college-level mathematics courses, such as precalculus, calculus, linear algebra, statistics and probability, and more advanced mathematics courses. An understanding of algebra is also assumed in geometry and trigonometry courses.
Algebraic expressions play an important role in the mathematics curriculum and in mathematics in general. In order to progress and do well in mathematics, students need to be able to read and write expressions, and to be skilled in computations and manipulations of algebraic expressions.
It teaches you basics that can help you later in life. So when you learn “useless math”, you are actually learning basic skills of problem solving that you will most definitely need at least once in your life time. School is not to entertain you, but to prepare you for life.
This ability to grasp complex, changing, and abstract concepts stimulates the brain, helping students learn how to think in new ways. Algebra also helps students organize their thinking, making it easier for them to craft reasonable re- sponses when confronted with complicated or dynamic situations.
