Due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, the federal government is issuing Economic Impact Payments (EIP) of up to $1,200 per qualifying individuals. Many people are calling them “stimulus checks” or “stimulus payments.”
You may be eligible for a payment if you have an SSN that is valid for employment, you can’t be claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer., and your adjusted gross income does not exceed a certain amount. Nonresident aliens who file or would file Form 1040-NR or Form 1040-NR-EZ are not eligible for the payment.
The new EIP 2 cards will work in exactly the same way as the previous ones which were received by around four million Americans for whom the IRS did not have up-to-date bank information for. EIP cards are basically the same as debit cards that you can spend like cash or use to transfer the funds to your bank.

Claiming Your Stimulus Check (EIP) in your 2020 tax return
The check will be mailed to the address on file at the IRS from the prior year tax return. It could take 5 to 6 weeks to get the check via mail.
Contact the Automated Clearing House (ACH) department of the bank/financial institution where the direct deposit was received and have them return the refund to the IRS. Call the IRS toll-free at 800-829-1040 (individual) or 800-829-4933 (business) to explain why the direct deposit is being returned.
You should return the payment as described below. If the payment was a paper check: Write “Void” in the endorsement section on the back of the check. Mail the voided Treasury check immediately to the appropriate IRS location listed below.
You can, but be aware the IRS has two years to request any overpayments to be paid back. The third stimulus payment is an advance on a tax credit for the 2021 tax year. If you don’t get the payment, you can always claim the tax credit next year.
