The Four Types of Sentences
Declarative Sentences: Used to make statements or relay information. Imperative Sentences: Used to make a command or a direct instruction. Interrogative Sentences: Used to ask a question. Exclamatory Sentences: Used to express a strong emotion.
If you are looking up information, you can look it up in a book. In that case, the information is inside of the the book. If you are going to provide information about a book, you can also provide information on a book. In that case, “on” means the information is about the book.
As our eyes move across the text, our minds gobble up the type’s texture—the sum of the positive and negative spaces inside and around letters and words. We don’t linger on those spaces and details; instead, our brains do the heavy lifting of parsing the text and assembling a mental picture of what we’re reading.
To improve students’ reading comprehension, teachers should introduce the seven cognitive strategies of effective readers: activating, inferring, monitoring-clarifying, questioning, searching-selecting, summarizing, and visualizing-organizing.
Reading comprehension disorder is a reading disability in which a person has trouble understanding the meaning of words and passages of writing. … If your child is able to read a passage out loud but can’t tell you much about it afterward, they might have specific reading comprehension deficit.
Reading whilst in a horizontal position causes a strain on the muscles around the eyes. The strain is particularly felt by the extraocular muscles that are responsible for eye movement. The fatigue caused by reading when lying down can mean that you’re taking a little longer to read each page.
Recommended Reading Time Per Day. You should read at least 30 to 60 minutes daily 5 days a week. It is good for you to read as much time and as many books as you can. If you read books in less time than this, then the highest benefits of reading books may be insignificant for you.
Whether you’re reading 30 minutes each day or upwards of two hours, the key is to get some (book) reading in every single day. The benefits are well charted: improving both intelligence and emotional IQ, reducing stress, and allowing readers to, on average, live longer than non-readers.
A second question has been given almost equal importance: Is reading a book to students online even legal? The short answer is, well, yes. While many well-intentioned commentators have warned teachers against this practice, the fact is that copyright law—specifically fair use—permits many read-aloud activities online.
Fortunately, and encouragingly, many publishers have recently begun to grant teachers permission to live stream or record themselves reading books to their students as part of storytime or read-aloud sessions.
The possessive pronouns are my, our, your, his, her, its, and their. There’s also an “independent” form of each of these pronouns: mine, ours, yours, his, hers, its, and theirs.
When to Use Mine
Mine is a pronoun, too, but it is a possessive pronoun. Possessive pronouns indicate property or ownership. Since mine is a first person singular possessive pronoun, it is used when a speaker is referring to something that belongs to himself.
