The order of operations is a rule that tells the correct sequence of steps for evaluating a math expression. We can remember the order using PEMDAS: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division (from left to right), Addition and Subtraction (from left to right).

You can alternatively apply PEMDAS as schools do today: Simplify everything inside the parentheses first, then exponents, then all multiplication and division from left to right in the order both operations appear, then all addition and subtraction from left to right in the order both operations appear.
Exponents and square roots are repeated multiplication and division, and because they’re even more complex, they are performed before multiplication and division.
M: Multiplication. D: Division. A: Addition. S: Subtraction. When doing order of operations, the order of the letters in PEMDAS tells you in what order you should complete mathematical expressions.
As Andy said … the answer is 25.
But since 1917, the PEMDAS rule has been taught to millions of people. It remains astounding only how many claim to know the right answer.
The answer for 2+2×4 = 10. I followed PEMDAS to solve this problem. i.e. Parentheses Exponential Multiplication Division Addition Subtraction.
Remember in seventh grade when you were discussing the order of operations in math class and the teacher told you the catchy acronym, “PEMDAS” (parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction) to help you remember? Memorable acronyms aren’t the only way to memorize concepts.
3. Many suspect that the concept, and especially the term “order of operations” and the “PEMDAS/BEDMAS” mnemonics, was formalized only in this century, or at least in the late 1800s, with the growth of the textbook industry.

Begin the lesson by reviewing the acronyms for PEMDAS as the phrase”Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally” and the actual abbreviations “Parenthesis, Exponent, Multiplication/Division (in order from left to right), Addition/Subtraction (in order from left to right)” reminding the students that the equation must be solved in …

Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally (PEMDAS–parentheses, exponents, multiplication/division, addition/subtraction) is making way for a new mnenomic–GEMDAS. … The “P” has been replaced with a “G”–which stands for groupings and includes any grouping symbal such as parentheses, brackets, and/or braces.

PEMDAS is an acronym for the words parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction. For any expression, all exponents should be simplified first, followed by multiplication and division from left to right and, finally, addition and subtraction from left to right.
As per the rules of order of operations do look for parentheses first, then exponents, then move towards multiplication or division and addition or subtraction from left to right.
