When you analyze a story, you try to find a meaning for the story. You make a claim about the story’s meaning, and provide evidence from the story itself to support your analysis. You look for a reasonable way of understanding the story.
According to an article titled “7 Elements of Historical Fiction”, in general writers of fiction must address seven crucial elements: character, dialogue, setting, theme, plot, conflict, and world building. The characters could be based off of real or imaginary individuals.

A story has five basic but important elements. These five components are: the characters, the setting, the plot, the conflict, and the resolution. These essential elements keep the story running smoothly and allow the action to develop in a logical way that the reader can follow.
In fiction, the writer’s job is to entertain, to draw an emotional response from the reader. The reader is often looking for suspense, action, and to go on a journey they have not been on before, one they will not easily forget. Readers want to get drawn into and experience the story for themselves.
Novels usually fall into three categories: literary fiction, genre fiction, and mainstream fiction.
While there are many reasons why you might be putting pen to paper or tapping away on the keyboard, there are really only four main types of writing: expository, descriptive, persuasive, and narrative. Each of these four writing genres has a distinct aim, and they all require different types of writing skills.

The main character in a story is the protagonist. As readers we share the most empathy with this character. He/she is the one fighting for a cause in the story or movie. The antagonist, on the other hand, is the protagonist’s adversary.

Fiction texts are created from the imagination and include made up stories with characters, a setting and plot from the authors own imagination. Some examples of fiction texts would include picture books, novels and classic fairytales to name a few.
Fiction readers not only experience the protagonist’s point of view, but his innermost thoughts. They spend hours with his perspective and learning about his background. They think and care about someone very different from themselves. Fiction also allows readers to experience new settings.
Unlike poetry, it is more structured, follows proper grammatical pattern, and correct mechanics. A fictional work may incorporate fantastical and imaginary ideas from everyday life. It comprises some important elements such as plot, exposition, foreshadowing, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.
The two main types of fiction are literary and commercial. Commercial fiction attracts a broad audience and may also fall into any subgenre, like mystery, romance, legal thriller, western, science fiction, and so on.
