At nine, children are still greatly influenced by their parents. Most 9-year-olds benefit from the freedom to exercise their growing independence but still seek emotional reassurance from their parents. Nine-year-old children may also be moody, and may be upset one minute and then fine the next.

By the 4th grade, students can connect with the information they‘re learning; they’ve got a little more independence – and often a lot more attitude – and they know their place in the world.
Third grade: Math class focuses on multiplication and division. Fourth grade: Kids move on to math concepts like fractions, decimals, and basic geometry, like measuring lines and angles.
The goal for 4th grade students is to secure a habit of monitoring their understanding as they read, as well as breaking up more complex texts as they are reading into smaller segments. Their stamina for independent reading increases to 30-35 minutes or longer. Fourth graders write every day.
Writing is assigned in all subject areas, and by the end of fourth grade, students should be able to write clearly and effectively including using complete paragraphs, transitional sentences, and a theme throughout the composition.
