In some cases, USCIS may give you the option to take the oath on the same day as your interview. If you arrange to take a “same- day” oath, USCIS will ask you to come back to the office later that day. At this time, you will take the oath and receive your Certificate of Naturalization.
After the interview and before the oath, you will still have your non-US passport and your permanent residency card. You can travel internationally and return to the USA as a permanent resident with that documentation. You do not become a US citizen until you swear the oath. Do not miss the ceremony.
If you received a notice stating that your N-400 was denied after the interview, this means that the USCIS officer has found you ineligible for naturalization. The USCIS policy manual on naturalization lists nine grounds that the USCIS officer may deny your application.
