“It is possible to damage your nerves, but probably not through occasionally sleeping funny,” says Kleitman. In experiments to study paresthesia, patients have kept blood pressure cuffs on their arms for over an hour without any permanent ill effect, says Yale’s LaMotte.Nov 24, 2008

Paresthesia is a sensation of pins and needles, numbness, or another abnormal sensation, often tied to peripheral neuropathy. Having your hand or foot fall asleep is a temporary paresthesia.
If your hand or arm gets numb, the cause could range from carpal tunnel syndrome to a pinched nerve. No matter the reason, treatments can give you relief as well as get to the root of the problem. The most common reason for getting a numb hand or arm is sitting or sleeping in the same position for a long time.
Someone who falls asleep on a limb is unlikely to do major damage to the nerves, Dyck says. But there are some cases when compressed nerves can become a greater problem. One such case is called “Saturday night palsy,” when a person falls asleep compressing a nerve while drunk.
If you sit or have your legs crossed for too long, the pressure can briefly compress nerves in your leg. That prevents your brain and the nerves in your leg from “talking” to each other like they should. The term for this is paresthesia, but most people say their leg (or other body part) has “fallen asleep.”
“When you bear down to poop, you raise the pressure in your spinal column, technically called the intrathecal pressure. Sometimes that rise in pressure will cause the discs in your spine to move against the nerves where they exit the spine and cause numbness, weakness, and a generally weird feeling down the legs.
How is finger numbness treated? Your doctor may recommend over-the-counter (OTC) medication to reduce inflammation. Examples include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen. Another option is wearing a brace or splint.
A foot that’s fallen asleep is not normally something to worry about. But you may want to seek medical help if it’s long-lasting, happens often, or is coupled with other symptoms or concerns.
He have to sit on his hand for an prolonged interval of time till the hand goes numb – not dangerously numb as in the hand is turning purple and about to slide off numb – just to the phase in which it is asleep and the fingers do not sign-up a complete sense of touch.
Dead arm syndrome is caused by overuse. It occurs when repeated overhead motions, like throwing a ball, injures the muscles or tendons in the shoulder. Common symptoms of dead arm syndrome include pain, weakness, and numbness in the upper arm.
Stiffness. Joints affected by rheumatoid arthritis can feel stiff. For example, if your hands are affected, you may not be able to fully bend your fingers or form a fist. Like joint pain, the stiffness is often worse in the morning or after a period of inactivity.
Positions in bed
Lie down on your back, and elevate your affected arm on 1 to 2 pillows. If your hand is more swollen than the rest of your arm, elevate your hand on a larger pillow than the rest of your arm. Lie down on your side. Relax your swollen arm on top of 2 pillows.
Back sleeping is good for spine alignment. The position tends to imitate your posture when you stand up straight. The pressure is evenly distributed across your body, which avoids build-up. Do you suffer from back pain and want to alleviate it while you sleep?
Try to keep the arm lower than at a right angle to your body (the lower the better normally but don’t put your arm flat under your body as you will squash the shoulder). With the bad arm uppermost, use a pillow to rest the arm on. Don’t just let it hang onto the bed as that can cause pain.
Without blood supply, your limbs and extremities become unsalvageable after six to eight hours. In some cases, however, enough blood can flow around the obstruction to extend that deadline.
If you sleep on your stomach, a pillow for your head should be flat, or sleep without a pillow. If you sleep on your side, a firm pillow between your knees will prevent your upper leg from pulling your spine out of alignment and reduce stress on your hips and lower back. Pull your knees up slightly toward your chest.
Try a new sleeping position, particularly on your side. Avoid laying on your arms under your pillow, which can compress nerves. Make sure your wrists remain unflexed, since flexing can lead to tingling. If you often sleep on your back with your arms overhead, try keeping them next to you to reduce nerve pinching.
Dead arm syndrome will not go away on its own with rest—it must be treated. If there is a SLAP lesion, then surgery is needed to repair the problem. If the injury is caught before a SLAP tear, then physical therapy with stretching and exercise can restore it.
A dead leg is caused by a direct blow to the thigh. This can occur by being struck by an object or by colliding with another person. The blow crushes the quadriceps muscle against the underlying bone. This damages the muscle fibres and blood vessels of the quadriceps, causing bleeding and swelling.
The takeaway
Head numbness has many possible causes, including illness, medication, and injuries. Causes of head numbness like common cold, headaches, or sleeping positions aren’t cause for alarm. Numbness in your head usually goes away with treatment.
This bedtime tumbling sensation is the phenomenon known as the “hypnic jerk” and may sometimes be accompanied by a visual hallucination. You may have heard it called a “sleep start”, the “hypnagogic jerk” or the “myoclonic jerk”, but for the sake of sanity we’ll just stick with the former.
What makes poop green? Green stool is usually the result of eating a large quantity of leafy, green vegetables. Specifically, the chlorophyll in the plants produces the green color. Alternatively, children might have green stool after eating artificially colored frosting at a birthday party.
Spending too much time on the toilet causes pressure on your rectum and anus. Because the seat is cut out, your rectum is lower than the rest of your backside. Gravity takes over, and blood starts to pool and clot in those veins. Add in any straining or pushing, and you may have a recipe for hemorrhoids.
An Indian doctor in Princeton has said ‘poophoria’ or a ‘stool high‘ is the experience of passing a large stool that can feel like an orgasm. … The Mirror said, quoting from the book, when the movement is big enough to distend the rectum, it can stimulate the vagus nerve, usually associated with having an orgasm.
Avoid sleeping with your elbow bent more than 90 degrees. Your ulnar nerve controls sensation to your small and ring fingers. It wraps around the inside of your elbow. When you flex your elbow for sustained periods of time, it takes on tremendous strain.
Lots of people sleep on their stomach because they have a firm or uncomfortable mattress. In the side position, your hip and shoulder get more pressure, so that you turn to the stomach position automatically. If you are thinking about a new mattress you should choose a mattress with a softer hip and shoulder section.
