OMB requires that race data be collectd for a minimum of five groups: White, Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, and Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander. OMB permits the Census Bureau to also use a sixth category – Some Other Race. Respondents may report more than one race.

Race as a categorizing term referring to human beings was first used in the English language in the late 16th century. Until the 18th century it had a generalized meaning similar to other classifying terms such as type, sort, or kind.
The mid-20th-century anthropologist William C. Boyd defined race as: “A population which differs significantly from other populations in regard to the frequency of one or more of the genes it possesses.
Etymology. The word “race”, interpreted to mean an identifiable group of people who share a common descent, was introduced into English in about 1580, from the Old French rasse (1512), from Italian razza.
Sport: Greyhound Racing. Declared if there is a mechanical fault with the lure equipment or starting traps, the lure is not kept at a reasonable distance from the leading greyhound, no dog completes the course within a reasonable time or there is any outside interference with the race.
To find an individual’s ethnicity in census records, you must at least know the individual’s name or the name of the head of household, depending on the year of the census, and the state and county in which the individual lived when the census was taken.

Race Categories
Asian: A person having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian subcontinent including, for example, Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands, Thailand, and Vietnam.
